Veronica's Story
We are always on a look out for opportunities to help children and young people facing health crises. Meet Veronika, a 13-year-old girl from Kiev. Once after school she decided to take a walk in an industrial area with her friends. They climbed on the roof of a dilapidated and deserted factory. As Veronika walked on the roof, she stepped on a broken tile and started falling through the roof. Her fall of about 16 meters high was stopped by a very hard landing on the concrete floor. The concussion immediately sent her into coma for almost 7 days. When the ambulance brought her to ICU department in the Hospital and the doctors examined her and found numerous injuries such as cerebral haemorrhage, torn lung, broken ribs, torn spleen, abdominal haemorrhage broken vertebra in the spine and etc.
As she woke up on the 7th day, in spite of terrible pain she made every effort to recover. In a month or so she was able to get up and walk again. Her treatment was complex and costly and with your help we were able to help! She is now home and going through rehabilitation and is very grateful to everyone who helped her in the process of recovery
