Kirkbie Kendal School hosts concert for Ukraine
SCHOOL pupils put on a show to raise hundreds of pounds for Ukraine.
On Wednesday, May 11, Kirkbie Kendal School hosted a ‘Concert for Ukraine’, which saw 27 acts from all year groups perform from a variety of genres.
Highlights included a year 7 piano soloist, a fifteen-piece year 9 samba group, school bands such as Aurora 5 performing Believer, and Joe and the Wonder Children performing Time, which was the 2017 Ukrainian Eurovision entry.
Other performances included a variety of singers, a sister duet, Key Stage 4 dance group and a flute solo.
The concert was organised and presented by a group of Year 11 students and was supported by businesses who donated a plethora of raffle prizes.
The concert raised more than £1,000 and all the proceeds will go to the Kendal based charity New Beginnings, which supports children and families in crisis, primarily in Ukraine.
The school heard from Andrey Donskyy, one of the charity founders, and the concert was watched by Ukrainian refugees.
The next performance event at Kirkbie Kendal School is the annual Creative and Performing Arts Evening on Thursday, June 30.
